You do not have a story problem. You just have a telling problem.

The tools got cheap, and when everybody has the same tools, everybody starts to sound the same. Here is the whole session on how to sound like yourself instead. No pitch.

What you are actually up against

A good camera used to be six thousand dollars.

Now most of it is free and it is in your pocket. That is good news, and it cuts both ways: when everybody has the same tools, everybody starts to sound the same. The one thing a machine cannot manufacture is a real human moment, told the right way. That is not the soft part of this work anymore. It is your whole advantage.

“When everybody has the same tools, what makes your story worth listening to?”

The system

Three steps, and you can start the first one today.

One · Find it

The one person, not the whole program. Decide the story first and let the medium be the last thing you pick.

Two · Capture it

Not a camera thing. A conversation, and being willing to “waste” half an hour asking what happened.

Three · Multiply it

One real story is not one post. It is a month of them, out of the same single afternoon of work.

All three steps fit on one page.

Three things people wrote down

A taste of what is actually in it.

None of this is theory. Three of the moves from the session, the kind of thing that changes the next conversation you have.

  • Do not put them in your office. Your office may be beautiful, but it is not their environment, and the story quietly becomes about you.
  • Save “why” for last. A why question makes people perform an answer and you get a mission statement. A what question makes them remember, and you get a scene.
  • Ask once, then be quiet. The gold is almost never in the first answer. It is in what they say after they think they are done.
The skip list

And three things to skip.

Use AI to remove friction, never to replace the moment. Information, not impersonation.

The cadence

Once a month. One real story from the field.

That is completely doable, and it is more than most organizations your size are doing. This week, do not build the month. Have one conversation.

Who is teaching

I am Braden. I help nonprofits tell the stories worth telling.

I spent five years as the whole marketing department for a nonprofit before starting Mila Studios.

The reason I am not afraid of AI is a Tuesday at a camp we were filming. I had just shown the team a recap we were building, and a volunteer named Jen was crying in the back of the room. She asked me to go back a couple of pictures, pointed at a girl with her hands raised and her eyes closed, and said, “that’s my daughter. And I never get to see her worship like that.”

I did not make that moment. No tool generated it. I was just there, ready, when it happened. That is the whole argument of this session.

The one-page summary

The whole session, on one page.

The same worksheet the people in the room got. Two sides of one sheet, and it holds the parts this page does not:

Your email, the worksheet, and nothing else. Want a second set of eyes on a real story instead? Book a free twenty-minute Story Audit.

Think of the one person whose story you have been sitting on.

You already know who it is. Get sixty seconds of them on your phone, or four sentences and a photo, whichever one you will actually do. You will have started.
