Every month, we keep your follow-up running.
Every person who gives, volunteers or asks for help keeps hearing back, and we bring in real stories, some of them on film.
Follow-up tends to go quiet a few months after it's built.
Nobody decides that. It's just that nobody's job is the follow-up, and the stories run out. The retainer is us staying on so it doesn't.
It's the last of the five steps in The Storytelling System, and it usually follows the install, the 30 days where we set up your follow-up in your own system. If your follow-up already works, your scorecard tells us whether you can start here.
Every size of the retainer includes all of this.
- You get one page a month with six numbers from your own records and one thing to do next, with the words already written.
- We keep your follow-up running and fix anything that stops.
- We bring in twelve real stories a year, each with written permission to use it.
- We plan each quarter with you on one call.
We film and write what's already happening.
It might be the camp week or the volunteer who never misses. Each story gets used all year, in your emails, on social media and in your year-end appeal.
The retainer comes in four sizes.
- Words and photos
We write all twelve stories a year, in words and photos.
It usually fits an organization with a budget of one to three million dollars a year.
- Four films
Four of the twelve stories also become story films.
It usually fits an organization with a budget over three million dollars a year.
- Flagship
You also get two flagship films a year. A flagship is the longer film you show at your banquet.
It usually fits an organization with a budget over ten million dollars a year.
- Full rhythm
You get four flagship films a year instead of two.
It usually fits an organization with a budget over ten million dollars a year.
The retainer is a twelve-month term, and we bill monthly in advance on the 3rd. It is always full price.

The retainer is for you if your follow-up is set up and you want it to keep going.
You also need one person on your side who reads the page each month and does the one thing on it. We write everything they need.
If you need one film for one moment, that's a video project, and you don't need the retainer for it.
Here are answers to the questions people ask us.
How long is the commitment?
It's a twelve-month term, and we bill monthly in advance on the 3rd.
Is there a founding price on the retainer?
No. The retainer is always full price, and it doesn't lower what an install costs.
What do you promise?
We won't promise how much people give, because nobody honestly can. We do promise that within 90 days of your first monthly page, every first-time gift is thanked within the time you've set, or we keep working on it for free until it is.
